Cultural Intelligence

Based on the class discussion on Cultural Intelligence (CQ), do you think that you have CQ? Give reasons.

Cultural Intelligence (CQ) – a new domain of intelligence that has immense relevance to the increasingly global and diverse workplace.

I think I have Cultural Intelligence because I live in a multiracial country. In order to live in peace and harmony, so I should understand other races cultural. I need to know their beliefs, taboo, custom, behavior, language, values and others.

Besides this, I also have Cultural Intelligence for China. From learning, reading, watching TV, media and some material, I know and get the information or knowledge about the traditional cultural in China. In Malaysia, most festivals in China are celebrated here too. As a Malaysian Chinese, I got to know more about the festivals in China.For example, the day of celebration likes Chinese New Year, Dumpling Festival, Lantern Festival and so on, taboo, custom, values and beliefs. In China, they place values and principles above money and expediency. Everything is to be gained by being modest, courteous, and extremely deferential. Furthermore, they are very believed in Feng Shui. They think that Feng Shui can bring luck to them.

In today's globalizing world, cultural intelligence is a necessary tool for everyone because it will help us manage effectively cross-cultural differences. In particular, it help to lower the cultural barriers caused by us or them and to allow you to predict what ‘they’ are thinking and how they will react to your behavior, and harness the power of cultural diversity.
